BE A LEADER…TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR OWN FUNDRAISER!!!
This is your chance to be a team captain - which directly leads to making a difference, changing lives AND creating a path for others to follow. Team Captains also serve as the link between the Team Up For 1 (TU41) Foundation and all potential participants. The best team captains use their positive energy, communication & organizational skills to generate incredible numbers by motivating friends, family, coworkers and others to be involved with a successful TU41 MVP Run/Walk. Team captains have the courage & leadership skills to guide their teams to set a goal that reflects their determination and commitment to spreading awareness and raising funds for TU41. We challenge you to become a team captain, rally your peers, and make a life changing impact in the lives of children with chronic and life threatening illnesses.
10 STEPS FOR A TEAM CAPTAIN TO FOLLOW…
1. RECRUIT, RECRUIT, AND RECRUIT…
Successful MVP Run/Walk teams range from 10 to 20 people. Recruit your family, friends, co-workers and others - AND THEN - ask them to recruit THEIR friends and family members, too!
2. USE THE ONLINE TOOLS
Register online and take advantage of all the easy-to-use fundraising tools:
●Create your own awesome team website!
●Send personal emails for online fundraising
●Track online and offline donations
●Personalize your website to show your peers how important this is for your team & you!
3. GET THE SHIRT – IMAGE IS EVERYTHING!
As if the cause wasn't good enough reason to get involved - after fundraising only $50 - participants receive an exclusive TU41 Run/Walk Day t-shirt! So gear up your team and wear those t-shirts with pride at your local MVP Run/ Walk.
4. AIM HIGH and “LEAD YOUR TEAM INTO BATTLE!”
The best leaders use their skills to empower everyone around them. All good leaders surround themselves with more good people - the key is to make sure everyone feels like they are “part of the process.” So as your team starts coming together – make sure all participants have the opportunity to give input as you make your plans. Guide your team in setting and achieving fundraising goals. Each team member should aim to raise at least $100.
5. TALK THE WALK…
You have the tools to network with precision and efficiency. Update your team often. Distribute information and process regularly. Spread the word about TU41 and our MVP Run/Walk everywhere you go. (You never know whom you might run into) Be creative with your advertising & marketing. Our mission speaks for itself! So never be shy about asking for help!
6. SET A TIMELINE LEADING UP TO THE DAY OF THE EVENT
Have periodical meetings – be organized - give updates, discuss fundraising efforts, goal progress, recruiting status, event schedules and brainstorming sessions for new ideas.
7. PARTNER WITH YOUR COMMUNITY!
Here are some ideas to get you started on possible partnerships to further the TU41 mission…
●Throw a fundraising party and invite everyone
●Partner with a sporting event or other community event for added exposure
●Check ahead of time to see if you can set up a TU41 table display to create interest at other events
●Be a diplomat - volunteer to work concessions, clean up / set up, take down for a community event – if you help them – they may very well help you!
8. KICK IT OFF RIGHT…
Throw a kick-off party and of course, invite everyone. Provide information on how your guests can be involved. Make it easy. Have computers on site, ready to get them signed up.
9. BE THE BEST LEADER YOU CAN BE!
Remember that you are the leader of your team. Be early on the day of the walk, greet your team - be prepared with t-shirts and information. Always be full of positive energy on the day of the event. Your attitude will be contagious and your team will be a force of enthusiasm and success for the Team Up For 1 mission.
10. GIVE THE PROPER SHOUT OUT…
When it’s all said and done - let your team members know how great they are. Send personalized thank you notes expressing your gratitude for the involvement and hard work.
5 WAYS TO MAKE AN IMPACT
1. BE AN EXAMPLE
You will be asking your peers and teammates to donate, participate and recruit more participants. You should be the first person to commit to a dollar amount you will be raising. Be enthusiastic in your effort so you’re first person to look to as an example for showing dedication to the TU41 mission. Start by making your personal solution. If you set the proper tone - you will lead a successful team with great fundraising potential.
2. POWER IN YOUR STORY
Share the reason you think the TU41 mission is important. Put in your own words, create your own powerful statement. When we share our story - we give deeper meaning to the mission and connect to those around us to join the cause.
3. GO SOCIAL
Social media platforms are a great way to communicate your inspiring message. Spread the word to your online network keeping your Facebook and Twitter accounts active with exciting news about your progress and information on how people can get involved. Use pictures, videos and stories in your updated stories and emails to insure your friends and family to continue supporting you in the cause.
4. SPREAD THE WORD
Talk to walk wherever you go and take every opportunity to ask everyone you know for their support whether it's giving a donation or joining your team. Hang posters, hand out flyers. Do anything you can do to get the word out to your community.
5. DOUBLE YOUR MONEY
Many employers offer matching funds programs. Your $100 donation could turn into $200! Inquire with your personnel department and remind your supporters about matching gifts.
